So how does an oil filled radiator really work? Well for starters, it uses convection energy rather than “radiators” to produce heat. Convection means the heat generated is coming from the coils and transmitted outside through conduction. It does not need fans to distribute the air the heat from the inside rise naturally to the room because of convection. It’s safer because oil is used and it does not burn such as what happens when your heating system utilizes radiators. Oil does not need to circulate through a boiler in order to generate heat. It actually becomes heavier and thicker than water which is why it can hold the heat much longer. Now it should be noted that using an oil filled radiator would take some time to take the chill off from a room because the oil warms up very slowly. On the other hand, once the oil becomes warm, one can enjoy warm temperature for a long time even after the unit has been turned off.
